Textiles Overview
In Textiles students combine contextual studies, practical and technological skills through creative exploration, to design and make various outcomes. Students look at diverse art movements to help generate ideas. Through an exciting range of outcomes such as T-Shirts, bags, banners, students learn to:
Develop ideas through investigations, researching artists and designers from contemporary, historical and other sources. Collecting images and creating mood boards.
Refine ideas through experimenting with different media such as various printing techniques; mono, poly block, screen printing as well as painting, collage, batik, applique, dyeing, photography and ICT.
Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to their intentions in visual and/or other forms such as drawing, taking photographs and making notes.
Present a finished piece of work that is personal and meaningful.
The main aim is to enable students, through varying degrees of support and differentiation, to have fun while learning and producing outcomes they’re really proud of. The Textiles room is well equipped, including iPads, PCs, sewing machines, silk-screens and printing tables. An exciting range of fabrics, threads, fabric paints, fabric crayons and dyes are also available.
